Presentation - Half Baked #579.jpg

The Idea: Yasser Elsaid was a college student at York University in Toronto with internships at Tesla and Meta on his resume and a career path that looked exactly like everyone else's. Then Meta didn't give him a return offer - and it turned out to be the best rejection of his life. When ChatGPT launched in November 2022, Yasser saw something most people missed: every business on earth was about to want AI, but none of them would know how to build it. So he spent 60 days building Chatbase - a tool that let anyone upload their documents and create a custom AI chatbot trained on their own data. Customer support, lead generation, internal knowledge bases - all powered by a bot that actually knew your business. On February 2nd, 2023, he tweeted about it to his 16 followers. The tweet went viral. Servers crashed twice in 24 hours. He failed two university classes. This was the beginning of Chatbase.

The Execution:

The lesson? You don't need a VC check to build a real business. Yasser saw a wave coming, shipped fast, and let the product do the talking. No pitch decks, no board meetings, no dilution. Just a guy who got rejected from Meta and decided to build something better from his bedroom. The best fundraising strategy is sometimes no fundraising strategy at all.
