The Idea: Julian Hearn's first job was digging holes in a road. Then he did night shifts at a petrol station. By 37, he'd already built and sold a marketing company called Mash Up Media - started with 1,500 pounds of his own money, grown to 3M+ profit per year, and sold to InternetBrands in 2011. But the idea that would define him came from a simpler frustration: people knew what they should be eating, they just didn't have time to make it. In 2014, he created a powdered meal replacement that contained everything your body needs in a single shake. No cooking, no compromise. He named it Huel - a blend of "Human" and "Fuel." This was the beginning of Huel.

The Execution:

The lesson? Hearn built a billion-pound brand without a single viral moment or celebrity co-founder. He identified a universal human constraint - time - and solved it with a product so simple it felt obvious in hindsight. The boring part was the magic: relentless focus on unit economics from day one, bringing in a professional CEO while the business was still small enough to not need one, and expanding the product line only after the core was bulletproof.
